11:45am
Information Leadership
Come and see our exciting range of features that let you extend SharePoint for common business problems that SharePoint struggles with. We’ll show you how they give a better user experience, simply information architecture for BA’s and let your dollars go further without custom development.

Smart Folders – for case files
This feature simplifies case file management, by making it easy for teams to create and maintain their cases, without having to have administrator rights to secure certain case files. Completed cases are automatically moved to remove clutter, and can dramatically simplify R&D rules for recordkeeping. Users love their simplicity and it’s a perfect solution for HR personnel, HSE cases, legal matters etc

Template Central - for easy propagation of standard document templates
Lets you centrally manage templates (eg Word, Excel) and make them available for users from the “New” menu in their document libraries
Create views for different audiences. Consider who will be using the templates and create the relevant grouped, sorted views they will use to pick a template. Templates can be security trimmed as well, so that staff see more or less templates depending on their role.

Intranet / Smart News / Smart Links / Columns – for cost effective intranet and term store use – for cost effective intranet and term store use
These features give you great ways of displaying intranet content, such as lists and news. They let you distribute or aggregate news, links, custom list items from anywhere to anywhere. Also see how to make the term store much more “usable” so as a BA you can treat the content of a term store column just as you would a normal metadata column – for views, filtering, refinement and retention and disposal.

SharePoint Security 101
SharePoint is big, very big.  In fact, it is one of the fastest growing products in Microsoft’s history, achieving more than a billion in revenue in 2009.  This represents a 30% year-over-year growth.  As one analyst ominously described, “SharePoint is like a virus growing inside the organization.”  But the real question is this:  How did Microsoft take into account security when building SharePoint?  Given Microsoft’s spotty record in security, when it comes to SharePoint, Britney may have summarized it best: “Ooops, I did it again.”
This talk will:
- Highlight SharePoint use cases and potential security issues
- Offer best practices for SharePoint security planning and management
- Provide key mitigation steps that enterprises implement to minimize the odds of a data breach

OpenText
Information Governance: How can I achieve this in a world of Microsoft SharePoint and SAP? And all my other systems..
To most the word governance is synonymous with compliance, which is then in turn synonymous with records management. After that the focus becomes very specific. When people try to understand how they should approach governance is to approach it as a strategy and make sure that strategy involves and intertwines three things: people, process and technology.
Sounds simple in theory, not as easy in practice. What about external Financial Solutions like SAP? What about my file systems and legacy applications? What do I do if I work in a highly regulated industry like Public Sector, Manufacturing and Resources or Financial Services? Join Owen Brandt, Strategic Alliance Director & Microsoft Lead, OpenText APJ, as he discusses some real world examples and articulates what to consider when the world of SAP looms into view to an Information Manager….

Using BCS Meta Man to provide connections to External Data Sources
Within this session delegates who attend the BCS session by Brett Lonsdale will learn how to use BCS Meta Man to provide connections to external data sources such as Oracle, SQL, and ODBC data sources without having to write any code. With BCS out of the box you will have to author code unless you are connecting to SQL, in which case you can use SharePoint Designer to provide basic SQL External Content Types. Metalogix
Optimize Your SharePoint Performance and Investment
Microsoft SharePoint 2010 takes a giant leap forward from previous versions. It includes many new features and capabilities which allow many customers to explore the options for upgrading and consolidating their SharePoint servers. We’ll show you how to upgrade from WSS 2.0, SharePoint 2003, WSS 3.0, or SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010. The session will also show how to handle complex upgrade scenarios, including 32-bit to 64-bit upgrades and the use of PowerShell to extend and automate migration operations. You’ll also learn how to handle granular and partial migrations and re-structuring of list, library and site content during migration and how to take advantage of new site templates in SharePoint 2010.
Despite the feature improvements that have propelled SharePoint 2010 to its current status within collaboration and content management circles there are still some considerations that have slowed enterprise adoption. One of the main challenges is large volumes of content. SQL Server wasn’t designed to house large volumes of Binary Large Objects (BLOBs). Managing BLOBs requires a significant share of SQL Server’s I/O, CPU and RAM cycles, without offering any benefits of storing these BLOBs in a relational database. The solution to this problem is to offload these BLOBS from the SQL database. Therefore, we will also be looking at how Metalogix has been enabling customers to scale their SharePoint implementations to handle large data volumes whilst still remaining within Microsoft’s boundary limits and supportability guidelines. This has allowed our customers to improve SharePoint performance, ease administration and reduce costs.
Our featured presenter will be Darren Malloy, IT Solutions Manager from Daisy Solutions
